Draymond Green Court Hearing to Be Held Before Olympics
However, USA Basketball has had to deal with distractions before they get ready to defend their gold medal in the tournament.
Draymond Green #14 of the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s National Team stands on the court during a practice session at the Mendenhall Center on July 18, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Green immediately regretted his actions, according to a police report that noted while Green was being walked to a patrol vehicle, Green said “some excited utterances, indicating that he was sorry for slapping the subject”.
Green has a pending misdemeanor assault and battery case stemming from a July 10 altercation with now former Michigan State football player Jermaine Edmondson outside a restaurant in East Lansing, Michigan.
Despite the lingering litigation, Green said that he hasn’t been punished by Team USA or coach Mike Krzyzewski, but he said that all parties are taking the situation seriously. Green admitted “everybody’s concerned” on Monday, but did not elaborate. “At the end of the day, as a public figure and as a guy who’s representing this country, I said it’s bigger than me”. It’s about anyone on this team. “Everything else is kind of secondary to that”. The Golden State Warriors’ forward was suspended during the playoffs and then collapsed with his teammates after going up 3-1 in the NBA Finals.
Days later, Green said the incident was something he’d “learn from and move on”.
Already a one-time champion, the Warriors are favored to win another title next season with the addition of superstar Kevin Durant. But when Draymond gets proud (which is to say, all the time), that’s when the trash talk starts.
