Drew Brees expects to start against Cowboys
The New Orleans Saints are struggling and a little banged up, so they re-worked injured quarterback Drew Brees’ contract in order to give them a little financial flexibility this season.
COLTS: Quarterback Andrew Luck will likely be a game-time decision to play against Jacksonville on Sunday.
RDE Cameron Jordan (back) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice and his status for the game with the Cowboys was not known.
If those big plays to Cooks aren’t available, Ingram will be waiting in the flats as Brees’ checkdown option.
“It’s going to be safe to say he’s going to throw every day now”, Payton said, adding that Brees has “done well” with his rehabilitation of a bruised rotator cuff and improved his shoulder strength. The Raiders have been surprisingly good with a few explosive, exciting young players, named rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper and second-year quarterback Derek Carr.
The Saints were generally pleased by the way McCown performed in Carolina, where he completed 31 of 38 passes for 310 yards.
“He does more than anybody in the building to get ready to play, whether that’s rehab or film”, Strief said. “We always preach technique, speed, be disciplined in our gaps, and we didn’t have any of that”.
“That’s four days away, and I feel like I’ll just continue to make progress and go from there”, explained Brees after practice.
In recent years, the Saints have owned the Cowboys, winning eight of the last ten match-ups between the two teams; in their first five games against the Cowboys Payton, Brees, and Co. averaged 34.4 points per game. The Saints front seven just has to find a way to disrupt him.
Brees is parting this week and that is a good sign for him possibly starting in Week 4. The team is now on a six-game losing streak at home. Cornerback Keenan Lewis and free safety Jairus Byrd both have been practicing on a limited basis this week. There was one difference, with defensive end Jeremy Mincey sitting out with a concussion. The Cowboys have twice previously won 10 straight regular-season road games, in 1968-69 and 2006-07.
See, the Saints are in a similar position that the Cowboys are in, takeaway their respective records.
