Driver safely exits SUV hanging from Austin parking garage
Bystanders have helped rescue an SUV driver after the vehicle plunged off the ninth floor of a Texas parking garage and dangled from the side. Miller immediately took out his phone and managed to get video of the driver climbing out of the vehicle moments after it went off the garage.
Crews said it will be about an hour before they are able to bring the vehicle down.
It is a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. Wires line the perimeter of every floor of that parking garage. It was only stopped when the guide wire became wrapped around the wheel, causing it to hang, suspended in the air. “He managed to plant his feet on that and I picked him up”.
A video captured by Andrew Miller reveals the terrifying scene of the vehicle suspended in mid-air.
Shocking footage shows the auto swinging from a winch on the outside of the vehicle park as firefighters work to move it to safety.
The driver said wearing his seat belt saved his life.
‘It looked pretty unsafe even though it wasn’t swinging, ‘ he told the station.
Crews have since lowered the vehicle down with ropes an pulleys, moving it 6 inches at a time, according to the Statesman.
