Driving to Dodger Stadium? Take the new Vin Scully Avenue
The drive to Dodger Stadium got cooler Friday when the Los Angeles City Council unanimously agreed to rename the park’s entry road after iconic broadcaster Vin Scully.
Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully smiles on the field before the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Dodger Stadium on September 23, 2015.
The visit by the Dodger contingent to City Hall is part of their week of service tour in the Los Angeles area, dubbed by the team as the “Dodgers Love L.A. Tour”. The Bronx native said in August that the 2016 season likely will be his last. A contingent of current and former Dodger players were on hand for Friday’s meeting as the council voted 12-0 to support councilman Gil Cedillo’s motion. But he issued a statement through the Dodgers Friday saying he was “overwhelmed” by the vote.
As we all know, outgoing Los Angeles Dodgers voice Vin Scully is an American treasure. Now 88, Scully will return for his 67th season this summer.
Now, 171 years later, a road named after the same legend has been linked with Scully.
SCULLY will call DODGER home games on flagship iHEARTMEDIA Sports KLAC-A (AM 570 LA SPORTS)/LOS ANGELES and TIME WARNER CABLE SPORTSNET LA.
Councilman Paul Koretz said Scully’s voice had served as a backdrop to “my entire life”.
“Now is the time for us to recognize the greatness of this man”, said City Councilman Gil Cedillo, who made the motion.
The Dodgers are hopeful to have this change completed within the next 30 days.
