Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson endorses Texas Sen. Ted Cruz
The reality star community has apparently not come together behind former “Celebrity Apprentice” star Donald Trump: “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson is endorsing Ted Cruz for the president. Why he’s hunting with Ted Cruz!
Cruz and Robertson would seem to be a ideal match on the presidential campaign trail, as Cruz has promoted heavily his Christian beliefs on the campaign trail.
“Cruz, the reason we’re going to vote for you, all of us, is because you’re one of us, my man”, Robertson says, giving the candidate a thumbs up.
Cruz, he says, is the only candidate that “fits the bill”. “He’s Godly, he loves us, he’s the man for the job and he will go duck hunting”.
In a 2013 interview with GQ, Robertson was asked what he considers sinful. The video then cuts to footage of the senator – also in full camo get-up – hanging out with Robertson in his duck blind.
“Phil’s story of starting off with something small and working hard to achieve the American dream is inspiring”, he added. That’s right. You’re thinking exactly what I am. I mean who else wouldn’t want a guy who has been a staunch advocate of marrying 15-year-old girls and a raging homophobic? Ultimately, the suspension was lifted in a little over a week and did not interrupt the show’s filming schedule.
Robertson has found himself in the spotlight several times for controversial comments and nearly got kicked off of his popular TV show because of them.
Robertson’s endorsement of Cruz reflects his appeal to religious conservatives, particularly in Iowa, which will hold the nation’s first caucus February 1.
