Duck Wearing Bow-Tie Walks Into Pub, Drinks Pint, Fights Dog, Loses
Star, a duck from North Devon, Britain, famous for its drinking habits at local pubs, got into a drunken scrap with a dog and nearly got killed.
The bird – called Star – is well known for waddling around his favourite inns wearing a bow tie and swigging ale from a glass. Star’s bottom beak was split down the middle, and he was rushed to the vet. It was not pretty and not nice. “We were so scared we would lose Star”, he added. Hayman did what any softhearted old fellow would, and rescued the little fella, taking him under his wing and naming him “Star”.
We have all been told to not get into fights, especially when we are drunk, and that too with someone who could overpower us. The vets are really pleased with his progress.
Reports say Star dipped his beak in a few pints before Meggie the teetotaling dog, also owned by Hayman, decided enough was enough. “He’s bouncing back nicely”, said Hayman talking to the Mirror.
But vets have reassured Barrie the injury won’t affect the duck’s dulcet tones – meaning the pet can take to the stage again. Hayman and Star go everywhere in town together – to the grocery store, to events where they raise money for charity with their double act, and even to the pub. I’ve not trained him to follow me.
Back in 2011, 65-year-old duck breeder Barrie Hayman noticed that one of his Indian Runner fledglings was having a tough go of it-shunned by his mates and brutally bullied when he tried to mingle. “He is such a personality and attracts so much attention”.
