Ducks re-sign Silfverberg for 4 years, $15 million
All of those bargain contracts are going to pay off in the very near future as they deal with a number of restricted and unrestricted free agents over the next year, including Sami Vatanen, Hampus Lindholm, Rickard Rakell, Hagelin and goaltenders Frederik Andersen, John Gibson and Anton Khudobin.
In the summer of 2013 the Anaheim Ducks traded Bobby Ryan, at the time a 25-year-old winger who had scored at least 30 goals in four of the previous five seasons, to the Ottawa Senators in a multi-player deal. The same thing happened a year ago.
As a young player, Jakob Silfverberg still has room to grow which is an exciting prospect. In the shootout, he’s ranked first in career efficiency, going 14-for-23, or a 60.9 percent conversion rate.
A Swede. Silfverberg won bronze at the 2010 World Junior Championship and silver at the 2011 World Championship.
Silfverberg set career highs with 13 goals and 26 assists last season, playing frequently on the second line for the Pacific Division champion Ducks. Although he’s blessed with one of the best wrist shots in the game, his offensive stats during the regular season weren’t much to write home about. But it was in the playoffs where Silfverberg really took his game to the next level; he tied Corey Perry for second on the team in points (18) and finished just four assists back of Ryan Getzlaf – impressive, given Getzlaf is one of the league’s premier table-setters.
