Duke gets first bowl win since 1961

In the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl, the Blue Devils saw a 41-31 fourth-quarter lead evaporate against the wizardry of Johnny Manziel as Texas A&M completed a comeback to win, 52-48. That tied the game at 41-41.

Back and forth they went at the Pinstripe Bowl in the Bronx, Duke and in throwing the ball deep and breaking through each other’s porous defenses with tailbacks and quarterbacks going untouched.

Only two such schools, Kentucky and Kansas, have bigger differences between their programs’ career winning percentages in basketball and football than in and Duke. Miami had a 3-yard touchdown pass from Brad Kaaya to Stacy Coley called back on a penalty with 5:14 to play. Redding probably should have been used more in the second half. With 25 seconds left in the third quarter, Thomas Sirk threw another interception to Darius Latham.

The Hoosiers sorely missed Sudfeld at Penn State when he was sidelined with an ankle injury suffered the previous week against Ohio State. He scored on a 5-yard run with less than a minute left in regulation.
