Duke University Students Rally at ‘We Stand with Mizzou’ Event

Both Loftin and University of Missouri System President Tim Wolfe resigned Monday after weeks of racial unrest. Students and faculty praised the appointment Thursday. The university initially said Loftin would stay as chancellor until the end of the year. On Tuesday, a handful threats were anonymously posted to the school’s Yik Yak network.
A Rolla detective says Brandenberg admitted he posted the threat. The university did not offer details about the message or say whether the suspect was a fellow student.
The threats follow protests over the University of Missouri’s handling of racial issues that helped force two top officials to resign.
Park is charged with making a terroristic threat. He has made his first court appearance and was denied bond. “I don’t know”, University of Missouri Officer Dustin Heckmaster wrote.
Middleton said his race likely played a role in his hiring, and would open his appointment as interim president to criticism. He will lead the four-campus university system until a permanent replacement is found.
The Rev. Michael J. Garanzini, S.J., Loyola’s former president, was sitting in his office on Rosemont Avenue when he heard chants from protesters marching down the street. On Wednesday, the university said an employee who was among those who clashed with a student photographer during campus protests was placed on administrative leave while her actions are investigated.
The school also announced it was handing its chancellor duties to interim Chancellor Hank Foley, effective immediately.
Middleton retired as deputy chancellor of the Columbia campus in August and became a deputy chancellor emeritus. Missouri S&T police reported that no weapons were found.
A 19-year-old student at the University of Missouri system’s Rolla campus is accused of posting threats against black students and faculty on the Columbia campus. He is due to appear in court Thursday afternoon.

Middleton said he is not now interested in being named permanent president, though he didn’t say he would refuse the position if offered it.
The man, who was inside of the 24-hour reading library was arrested by UC Davis police for being on campus property without permission. Reine Ibala, a senior at Yale University and a founder of the coalition, said students at almost 80 schools have shared their statement of support and participated in the campaign online.
Organizers led students in a brief march around campus in which they chanted “Not just Mizzou, it’s Loyola too!” before stopping at Halas Field, where they locked hands and members of The Black Tribune asked media members, not including their own publication, to stand outside the perimeter. He will be arraigned later Thursday.
The threats were all made on social media, including the messaging app Yik Yak, in the last three days, according to police.
Boone County’s chief sheriff’s deputy, Maj. Park’s felony review hearing is scheduled for November 18.
Wednesday night, MU Policy Now, a graduate professional student activist group, submitted a formal letter to the Board of Curators advocating for Middleton. There were also sit-ins and other protests by students, who were speaking out against incidents of racial harassment on campus, including the drawing of a swastika composed of feces in a bathroom dorm. Several postings have questioned if that really happened.
