Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara frustrated after nervy second half
Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara believes it will take just one victory for his side to start climbing the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership table ahead of the visit of Inverness. The introduction of Billy McKay should provide the Tangerines with added impetus up front but he is carrying a knock and may not line up against his former employers.
“I don’t go into games thinking about losing my job”, McNamara told BBC Scotland. “But unfortunately we didn’t do that so there was a bit of fear after the break”.
United should have beaten Kilmarnock last week but lost 2-1 late on and their run is leaving their manager frustrated.
“The game should have been over at half-time, it’s not”.
“The positive thing though is that we created chances again and some of our play was good”. Where Caley have mostly improved week on week, building up to that win against high flying Hearts, Dundee Utd haven’t looked like winning since they claimed maximum points in the second week of the season. It doesn’t matter if you’re at the top, the bottom or the middle. Things can change very quickly in football.
“We never started at all”.
“We need to be at it for 90 minutes”.
John Hughes’ team got their first win of the campaign against Hearts last week to move into ninth place but his Arabs counterpart Jackie McNamara is feeling the strain after four straight defeats.
Both sides have tricky League Cup ties in midweek against teams from lower divisions.
“We know what sort of player he is and how unsafe he can be, so we know what to expect”.
“I’m sure one result will make all the difference as I have faith in this group of players”.
