Durant, Westbrook Named Western Conference All-Star Starters
“Thanks to all the fans, it’s a true blessing and honor to be voted in the All-Star game”.
Thursday night was when we found out who was going to be making the trip to the All-Star Game this year, and the Western Conference roster wasn’t that hard to predict.
The Thunder are the only team in the National Basketball Association with two players named starters.
The Western Conference starting lineup included Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Kawhi Leonard (first time selection), and Stephen Curry. He led all Eastern Conference guards with 941,466 votes. The starters for the game, voted on by fans, will be announced tonight live at 7 PM EST on TNT.
In addition to his scoring prowess, James has averaged 6.18 assists, 6.45 rebounds and 1.54 steals in the NBA All-Star Game. He managed to come back to play in only six games last season but has turned in one of his best seasons this year, averaging nearly 24 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He is now second all-time in both points scored and points per game in NBA All-Star Game history.
The All-Star game will be held north of the border this year in Toronto on February 14th.
This is the first time the Thunder duo will be in the starting line-up together. Lowry joins Wade this time around in the backcourt, with former Heat teammate LeBron James as well as Indiana Pacers forward Paul George and New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony in the frontcourt for the East. In his All-Star career, he is averaging 25.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.5 steals. However, Enes Kanter is seventh in front court voting with 534,499 votes.
