Duronto Express derailment leaves atleast 2 dead, 7 injured
Nine coaches of 12220 Secunderabad-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Duranto Express derailed at Martur station near Gulbarga at 2: 15 am today on Solapur Division of Central Railway blocking Up and Down lines on Wadi-Gulbarga section. He said “The train halted suddenly and pantry coach in the rear part of train got derailed”.
Last month, two passenger trains derailed over a bridge in central India while crossing a track that was flooded by heavy monsoon rains, killing at least 24 people.
Mr Singh confirmed that the accident happened at around 2:20 am.
Railways has also announced ex-gratia relief of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of those killed, Rs 50,000 to each of the grievously injured, and Rs 25,000 to those with simple injuries, Chairman, Railway Board, AK Mittal said.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said the ministry has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The down line was restored for rail traffic at 0540 hours and seven coaches of the train with passengers left the site at 0630 hours. Immediate medical relief’& other assistance rushed. “Chair rail board requested to hurry”, he posted on micro-running a blog website. All arrangements made to take others to destination, special train.
“All injured bring rushed to hospitals and treated by medical team”. All possible help being provided to affected families and passengers.
