Dustin Brown back on court at Wimbledon
The 30-year-old German stunned the tennis world when he knocked out two times champion Rafael Nadal on Thursday.
On Saturday, Brown couldn’t replicate his game.
“It was like a 10-15 minute break. Everyone smiled, which is a good thing”, Brown said. If the team decides, OK, Dustin, you should take a break, we don’t think you should play [that’s fine].
Murray recovered to win 6-2, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 after having his own physio work on his back. I wanted to hit a dropshot.
Gilles Simon won the late-night meeting against Gael Monfils at Wimbledon, taking the fifth set under the roof on Centre Court.
Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych overcame an early scare to defeat Spaniard Pablo Andujar 4-6 6-0 6-3 7-6 (7-3).
But it’s especially well-suited to grass, and expectations ahead of his third-round match are now soaring.
The craziest day of the two-week tournament at the All England Club has all 16 fourth-round matches on the schedule.
It’s Manic Monday at Wimbledon and matches are about to get underway. Now the question arises: can Nadal ever bring his level of play back, as Federer did after his brief slump in 2013? Brown, known for his aggressive style of play (he calls it “Dreddy Tennis”), was dominated in just about every category by the Sebian. He served brilliantly, putting 70 per cent of his first serves in play.
Karlovic said both touches came “in one motion so that is legal”. I didn’t hit three balls in a row the same way. Not lately. He missed time last season with a right wrist injury, then needed appendix surgery, and has spoken about confidence issues. He added that he “was extremely lucky” to win the point. “Suddenly, I was just missing (shots)”. “I don’t really know what I can say”. And it looked like more of the same while leading 6-3, 4-2 until Jankovic started her comeback.
His distinctive dreadlocks, which he has not cut since he was 19, remain very much in tact and after beating Nadal, he unfurled his t-shirt to show off a large tattoo of his father, which was imprinted on his torso past year in Cologne. He also made it that far in 2013.
After all, his great rival Roger Federer won a seventh Wimbledon when he was nearly 31 in 2012. His only Grand Slam loss to an Australian came in his first major against Pat Rafter at the 1999 French Open.
Well, that wrapped up quickly. “Players are so comfortable being inside the court that they don’t want to move out”, on their receiving stance.
Viktor Troicki did what Rafael Nadal couldn’t, beating Dustin Brown at Wimbledon on Saturday to advance to the fourth round.
Away from the grandeur of Wimbledon’s prime arenas, Brown’s serve-volley game, which had the tennis purists purring when he beat Nadal, failed to cut through the canny Troicki’s defences.
Nearly inevitably, despite an encouraging crowd on No3 Court, Brown was never quite able to reach the heights he had done in sending Nadal scurrying home to Mallorca for some extra fishing and golf. Federer didn’t return it, but he managed to get some racket on it, making it a service victor instead of an ace.
It proved to be the flawless drop shot with the Serbian 22nd seed having no chance of retrieving the ball.
Brown joins Lukas Rosol, Steve Darcis and Nick Kyrgios who all lost their next match at Wimbledon after knocking out Nadal over the last four years.
