Dutch police detain man on highway near Amsterdam airport
The police received a call from a passenger of the bus on Monday morning that a male suspect had made “strange remarks, containing the word bomb”, the police said in a statement.
They said the man took off his clothes and was held at gunpoint while the bus was searched.
Examination of the bus did not disclose any risky material.
File picture shows travellers queuing at the departure zone of the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This delay came on top of the busy days around Amsterdam Schiphol airport due to security checks by the Dutch military police.
Dutch military police, the Royal Marechaussee, checked nearly all cars on the nearby ways to Schiphol and was on extra alert in the airport.
Checks on vehicles entering the complex have led to tailbacks, local TV reported.
The National Coordinator for Counter-terrorism and Security Policy (NCTV) supplied no information on the potential risk, but it said additional security measures were implemented, including vehicle investigations.
“The airport and its surrounding area remain accessible and all operations can continue as usual”, the statement said.
No details have been provided about the perceived threat, but the Netherlands remains one notch below the highest level of alertness for possible attacks.
