Dutch police, Turkish protesters clash amid diplomatic row
Protesters angry at the treatment of Turkey’s Family Minister rally at the Dutch Embassy in Ankara.
The decision resembles a fascist Nazi understanding and evokes Islamophobia, he said.
He said Ankara would retaliate for the ousting of the Turkish family affairs minister from the Netherlands in an unprecedented midnight stand-off outside the country’s Rotterdam consulate between a high-level government official and police in full gear.
Hundreds of protesters responded by gathering outside with Turkish flags, demanding to see the minister.
According to the analyst, both the European Union and the United States are anxious about Turkey’s growing relations with Russian Federation and that is why Dutch authorities are behaving in this manner.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said: “It is a insane remark, of course”.
“I thought that Nazism was over, but I was wrong”.
Turkey’s foreign minister has addressed expatriates in northern France, one day after he was stopped from entering the Netherlands.
Cavusoglu said on Saturday he would fly to the Netherlands despite the rally being cancelled.
The Netherlands has followed Germany in banning Turkish leaders from campaigning for the April referendum.
“We ended up in a totally unprecedented situation in which a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally. with whom we have historic ties, strong trade relations, is acting in a totally unacceptable, irresponsible manner”, Mr Rutte said.
“This makes the search for a reasonable solution impossible”, a spokesperson added.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan has dominated the Turkish political scene since 2003 “You will pay the price if you sacrifice ties between Turkey-Netherlands. If Europe keeps this up, they will lose many places, including Russian Federation and us”.
The rally was part of a “yes” campaign for an upcoming referendum in Turkey on constitutional reforms.
Rutte was referring to a comment by the Turkish foreign minister, who said the Netherlands should apologize over the incidents.
The actions of the Netherlands against Turkey go beyond diplomatic ethics, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Hikmet Hajiyev told Trend March 12.
He explained that Prime Minister Rutte is “desperately afraid” of losing votes to Geert Wilders, the far-right anti-Islam anti-migrant politician who leads the Freedom Party. We are here to defend our country and our people.
With tensions growing between the European Union and Turkey, Mr Cavusoglu repeated threats to cancel agreements including last year’s deal to stem the flow of refugees to Greece if the bloc failed to implement promised visa liberalisation for Turks.
The dispute arose after Turkish ministers were barred from speaking at rallies in Holland.
The plans are to be voted on in a referendum in Turkey next month.
The referendum is Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s attempt to regain control over Turkey after a failed military coup past year.
The decision drew ire from Erdoğan, who accused the country of “Nazi practices”.
Kurt said several people attempted to help them, but the police did not allow, adding that they escaped a police detention after medical teams told the police of their condition.
“You can cancel our foreign minister’s flight as much as you want, but let’s see how your flights come to Turkey now”.
