Duterte says did not insult Obama, calls UN chief ‘fool’
Obama said during the heat of an election “outrageous becomes normalized and people start thinking we should begin grading on a curve”.
Mr. Widodo, meanwhile, called the summit in Laos, which concluded on Thursday and included leaders from the U.S., Japan and a range of Asian countries, a success and described Mr. Duterte’s role as “very important”. However, the leaders later met briefly at the gathering in Laos, after Duterte expressed regret. “We will do our part in contributing to the aim of a drug-free ASEAN community”, he said in a statement following a private meeting with Widodo.
“Of the images he showed, Mr. Duterte recalled saying: “‘Tell me now, anybody here in this room, ‘ I asked them.
“I was ready (for Obama)”. Why is it that Mindanao until now, since the time of the Spaniards and the Americans, that there is no healing at all? Why?
Obama also brought attention to Guantanamo Bay, saying that aides are “working diligently” to reduce the prisoner population which has already shrunk from hundreds to about 60 prisoners.
In a tirade before the Laos summit, Duterte insulted U.S. President Barack Obama and the White House responded by cancelling a two-way meeting. P*t*ng i*a, mumurahin kita dyan.
Duterte, who is known for his tough talk, blamed the media for spinning stories.
An Indonesian diplomat said Duterte held up a picture of Filipinos killed in colonial times to underscore his point. In that said speech, Duterte added the phrase “son of a whore” while undisruptedly lecturing about “respect” and since the person he was referring to was Obama, it came out easy to throw out that the former’s curse was intended for the latter.
“At itong mga Amerikano, mahusay talaga [These Americans are really good]”.
He also added that it is not his problem if “the other side”, the worldwide media, has interpreted his statement in a wrong way stressing that he is only answerable to the Filipino people. “They can spin everything to [make me look bad]. Me?”
“I don’t give a s***”.
Based from a report done by VOANews, with this verbal incident, many are assuming that the relationship between the Philippines and the United States will become strained, but in a recent speech by Barack Obama, he clarified that President Duterte’s comments will not impact Philippines and USA relations.
“With an accurate and true representation of what’s going on, I salute you”.
