Dwayne Johnson Takes A Ride On Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’
THR reports that Disney is teaming with The Rock for their theme park ride turned movie, “Jungle Cruise”.
There’s no director aboard yet, though “Focus” filmmakers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra will write the script. John Davis and John Fox will produce for Davis Entertainment.
Disney has sought to turn the theme park ride, which takes parkgoers on an exotic trip the though the Nile Rilver, the Congo River, and the Animal Kingdom, since 2004, when Pirates was at peak popularity.
Disney have long been trying to wrangle Jungle Cruise and its history into a feature film, with both Tom Hanks and Tim Allen attached to star at one point.
Plot details have yet to be revealed for the adventure film, other than that it’s expected to to have a throwback vibe in keeping with the Jungle Cruise ride, the first incarnation of which opened at Disneyland in 1955.
“[Disney production president] Sean Bailey and Disney have been awesome partners and now the fun part begins”, Johnson said. Fired up about this one.
Johnson may have the busiest schedule in Hollywood. The actor is now shooting the action comedy Central Intelligence for New Line and will shoot Baywatch with Zac Efron early next year.
Also on the docket, although without any specific dates, are a new Fast & Furious movie and a Shazam!
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson must have enjoyed his time at Disney’s D23 convention this weekend that he wanted to find another reason to work with the studio and they have found one for him.
Johnson is repped by WME, The Garcia Companies and Gang Tyre.
