Dwayne Johnson To Star In Film Based On Popular Disneyland Attraction
Following the success of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, Disney has pushed hard to find ways to use its various brand-name theme park attractions as a basis for feature films.
As many people know, “Jungle Cruise” is a popular Disney theme park ride that has a retro adventure vibe.
A new report says that Jungle Cruise is still on its way, and that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will having a starring role in the film.
Of course, the other question is… when will Dwayne Johnson actually have the chance to make Jungle Cruise?
John Davis and John Fox will produce.
Sequa and Ficarra are now only set to write and not direct, though that could change once they nail down a story.
The 2011 project was slated to star Tom Hanks and Tim Allen and written by Roger S.H. Schulman. “Now the fun part starts. we put in the work”.
Johnson feels quite positive that making “Jungle Cruise” would be an enjoyable experience, given the experience he’s had working with Disney in the past. (Don’t worry: not It’s A Small World.) The first of these was Pirates of the Caribbean: once the sort of exhausted, second-tier parkfiller you might have ridden while ingesting a three-gallon blue Slush Puppie and killing time before your Space Mountain slot: today, one of the absolute cornerstones of money-crapping modern Hollywood creativity.
This marks the second big Disney-The Rock announcement this week, as it revealed at last week’s D23 Expo last weekend that the former wrestler would be a lead voice in the upcoming animated film Moana.
Dwayne has certainly seen his career explode recently, with this year’s big blockbuster San Andreas, mega hit Furious 7 and new show Ballers. Requa and Ficarra, whose writing credits also include Cats & Dogs and Bad Santa, are repped by CAA and McKuin Frankel.
