Dyke: FA will await Federation Internationale de Football Association verdict before dropping Platini support
The ethics committee is also probing Platini over a €2m payment he received from Blatter nine years ago for consultation work.
UEFA has issued a statement supporting their president Michel Platini.
UEFA’s executive committee have, though, shown full support for Platini, stating that they have “full confidence” in his innocence. All 54 UEFA member associations will meet at UEFA headquarters on the same day.
Swiss prosecutors are investigating Blatter for criminal mismanagement.
The case appears to be more serious for Blatter, who is considered a suspect.
Chung Mong-Joon says he’ll “mobilise all legal means” to fight the six-year ban.
Valcke is already under investigation for an alleged World Cup ticket scam. South Korea was one of the bidding nations in the contest won by Qatar.
As the storm grew, Blatter announced that he would stand down, but only when the election is held. “This decision by the ethics committee has completely undermined the legitimacy and fairness of the next Federation Internationale de Football Association presidential election”.
A FIFA statement from Hayatou read: “Today, amid extraordinary circumstances, I have assumed the office of FIFA President pursuant to Article 32 (6) of the FIFA Statutes”. “This is also a structural problem and will not be solved simply by the election of a new president”. The 60-year-old Frenchman claims: “The allegations are astonishingly vague. Unlike Blatter, Valcke and Platini, I am not facing any allegations of bribery, fraud, corruption, or conflict of interest”.
Platini registered his candidacy Thursday for the February 26 vote to find a successor to Blatter.
LONDON (AP) – From sure bet to suspended, Michel Platini’s career in soccer politics could be over. He was reprimanded by the worldwide Olympic Committee in 2011 over a payment made to him by FIFA’s former marketing agency ISL during the 1990s.
Hayatou, who is from Cameroon, replaces Blatter temporarily because of his position as the longest-serving current member of FIFA’s executive committee.
“The attorney general in Switzerland … opened an investigation but brought no charge against the president”, Cullen said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.
With Sepp Blatter suspended, African soccer leader Isaa Hayatou will serve as acting president of the governing body for the next 90 days.
