Dylan Redwine’s death declared homicide, dad IDed as person of interest
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that the La Plata County Coroner has amended the death certificate for Dylan Redwine from manner of death: undetermined, to manner of death: Homicide.
The sheriff’s office said Wednesday Mark was identified as the person of interest based on inconsistent statements he made, evidence collected and “his behavior throughout the investigation”.
Dylan went missing during a Thanksgiving visit to his father’s house in Near Vallecito Lake in 2012. Middle Mountain Road is frequently used for hiking and off-roading, but is rendered inaccessible in winter months due to snow. It has garnered national media attention and inspired a massive social media presence, much of it accusing Mark Redwine of his son’s death. The boy was living with his mother and brother in the Colorado Springs area.
From the very beginning, Dylan’s mother, Elaine Hall, said she believed Mark Redwine had something to do with the disappearance of her son.
Redwine admitted to The Denver Post in July that he might be the person of interest in the case, but said authorities had rebuffed his efforts to speak with them.
“There’s a distinction between a person of interest and a suspect, and we are at the person of interest stage right now”, Klismet said at the time.
He told KKTV he’s investigated a number of similar cases and has never been wrong, and he’s not wrong in this case.
Elaine and Mark Redwine have been divorced for years.
Last month, The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office told 11 News that new evidence was discovered after two recent searches near the location where Dylan’s remains were found two year earlier.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who might have any information that could help in their investigation of Dylan’s disappearance and death to call their hotline: 382-7511. Several “items of interest” were found in the area in July, but investigators wouldn’t elaborate further on what those were.
