EA Removes 13 Women Players From Federation Internationale de Football Association 16
“We do not agree with this position”, EA stated in their statement which appeared on their website on Thursday.
13 women’s national team players have been removed from FIFA 16 after the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) informed EA that the athletes would be risking their eligibility for college selection if they remained in the game.
For the past three years the Ibrox outfit have been included in the Rest of the World section, including Greek side Olympiakos and teams from other nations where EA Sports don’t have the license. Plus, members can instantly expand their gaming library with The Vault, a growing collection of EA’s best Xbox One games such as “Battlefield 4”, “Titanfall”, “Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare”, “Dragon Age: Inquisition” and more which they can play as much as they want.
Now, the video-game developer has been forced to remove 13 women’s players from the highly-anticipated game, which is slated for a September 22 release.
The removed players include six on the Canadian team, one on the Spanish team and six players for Mexico. Other players who were cut off from the game’s lineup are Jessie Fleming, Ashley Lawrence, Janine Beckie, Rebecca Quinn and Sura Yekka – from Canada; Tanya Samarzich, Greta Espinoza, Christina Murillo, Amanda Perez, Emily Alvarado, and Maria Sanchez – from Mexico; and Celia Jimenez from Spain. Buchanan, a 19-year-old centre back from Brampton, Ont., won the World Cup’s Hyundai Young Player Award and was the lone Canadian on the tournament all-star squad.
In July, a US federal judge approved a $60 million settlement for college athletes in a class-action lawsuit filed against the NCAA and Electronics Arts. However you won’t be able to play as all of the footballers.
