Eagles add Terrence Brooks, two others off waivers
The Eagles signed the following five players to their practice squad: OG Darrell Greene, WR Marcus Johnson, RB Byron Marshall, DT Aziz Shittu, & WR David Watford.
A winding few days for wide receiver Paul Turner and cornerback C.J. Smith ended with both undrafted rookies signing to join the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad Monday. A lightly-touted prospect from Louisiana Tech, Turner developed into a Philadelphia fan favorite thanks to his steady play in exhibitions and a punt return touchdown in the preseason finale.
Turner became a sentimental favorite of fans and teammates alike to make the squad after a almost flawless preseason in which he led the National Football League with 17 catches. Turner is a possibility for the Eagles’ 10-man practice squad if he’s not claimed by another team.
Smith, the undrafted corner out of North Dakota State, got better as the preseason wore on.
Brooks (5-11, 198) is a 2014 third-round pick of the Ravens familiar to Eagles personnel exec Joe Douglas, who worked for Baltimore.
Grugier-Hill (6-2, 215) is a rookie sixth-round pick of the Patriots out of Eastern Illinois, where Jimmy Garroppolu and Tony Romo played.
The Eagles evidently wanted a receiver who could be more of a deep threat.
The Eagles still had two players to release as of Sunday afternoon.
Treggs averaged 21.2 yards per reception last season.
Actually, more action could be taken on the active roster as well because it’s likely the Eagles will want to add at least one more linebacker before opening day. Once the flurry ends, teams will have to put together their practice squad roster as well. One of the players cut was defensive tackle Taylor Hart which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. They did keep 11 offensive and 11 defensive linemen. Unfortunately for him the Birds are loaded with defensive tackles.
