Eagles coach Chip Kelly: Should he stay or should he go?

Jon Gruden has been a candidate for every head coach opening in the National Football League and NCAA since he parted ways with the Buccaneers back in 2008.

Former Seattle Seahawks legion of boom member, Byron Maxwell clearly benefited from having one of the best pairings at safety in the NFL. Most likely the only reason Chuck Pagano has a job still is because Andrew Luck is his quarterback.

But, all the negative press about Kelly and how he has mismanaged the Philadelphia Eagles will surely take its toll as the season wears on. On the flip side of the coin, other quarterbacks like Robert Griffin III oozed with natural talent but saw their careers systematically destroyed by poor coaching. Lurie wants a coach who is a classy, likeable front man for the organization, and Kelly has been anything but.

Kelly didn’t suddenly become a bad coach, although he increasingly has looked like one. It might be an agent who feels in that his client must be paid more & is upset in that Kelly hasn’t agreed to provide him a brand new contract. It was pretty obvious that 10-6 was that team’s ceiling, and Nick Foles’ benching in St. Louis for Case Keenum only exemplifies this. “Was that giving full effort?” the player said.

Chip Kelly has seemingly abandoned the run game, Murray has a mere 155 attempts for 545 yards and a touchdown for a 3.6 YPC average. But in the end, he thinks Kelly may be meant for another place. There’s no way a coach rebounds from that.

“I think the fans are exhausted of him”.

The only date that should matter now to Jeffrey Lurie is April 28. The Eagles must go after a dual-threat quarterback this offseason. If the Eagles are to grab a passer in the next draft with a high pick, who the guy is on the sidelines with the headset is going to be an immensely important detail. I don’t even know how it’s possible to go from where they were to where they are. It has been a process of trial and error, with more errors than success. I try to do my best to not let the cameras catch you do it if you’re going to do it, and you can say things sternly without screaming, I think…. It doesn’t need Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Ben Roethlisberger to operate. “I just think Chip Kelly if given a choice might be comfortable elsewhere and we’ll see if that shakes out”. The incident raises questions about Manziel’s future in Cleveland (he’s nearly certainly gone after the season) and the state of the franchise itself. That is because Mark Sanchez stepped up under center and did exactly what he was asked. Yes, I’ll take the offense that can stay afloat with a backup quarterback, please. And yes, a lot of the blame for that falls on Kelly the general manager.

Eagles fans are more perceptive than Kelly believes them to be. If that fails, the team will be in the market for a quarterback again, and will start the rapid descent into becoming the NFC’s version of the Cleveland Browns. And it would beat the heck out of starting from scratch with another coach and quarterback. Are the prospects of Lynch, Goff, Hackenburg and the like really the type of players you make that risk for?

These days, the 283 rushing yards allowed in total on Sunday seems very much like Eagles defense. Evan Mathis had a tremendous season, but that wasn’t enough to make up for the rash of injuries to the line. Honestly, I’m really leaning towards this option. But the Eagles owner can’t fire himself.
