Eagles LB Smith out 2-3 weeks with hamstring strain

The Eagles chose Smith, 23, with the 26th pick in the 2014 NFL draft. Smith will have to get back out there quickly before another player potentially takes his job.

“It’s not as bad as I thought it was”, Smith said. The last couple weeks, he’s got more and more, and this week we gave him a lot.

“Oh, he’s way ahead of where he was [last year]”, Davis said prior to the first preseason game against the Colts. “So I think Vinny and Trent are probably a closer comparison, and I think Vinny’s really been in the system so the words make sense to him where that first year all the words were new to everybody”. He will miss valuable practice and playing time in the preseason, but he was still on the sidelines Friday and does not believe the injury will hamper his ability to become the third outside linebacker.

Cross Earl Wolff off the list of candidates. Brad Jones, who can play inside and outside linebacker, could also fill in. However, Smith vows to return when the regular season gets underway.

“We’ll accelerate Vinny’s move out there now because of the depth”, defensive coordinator Billy Davis said. “I think that’s where we’re at”. “It’s two to three weeks, then we just go from there”. So Vinny’s excited. I ” m excited about seeing Vinny out there in that role”.

But during the offseason, starting outside linebacker Trent Cole was released and Brandon Graham, the top backup, was promoted to Cole’s spot. He’ll make his preseason debut Saturday. It’s possible both sit this game out.

Either way, fans have been clamoring for Curry to see more playing time and it may finally happen. His absence leaves Ed Reynolds, Chris Maragos, Chris Prosinski and Jerome Couplin to battle for the spot. “The third linebacker job, that’s still my goal”.

“We’re Vinny’s and enthusiastic about observing him available worked up”.

Marcus Smith said that he will miss three weeks, and thus the final three preseason games, with his hamstring injury.

“It’s disappointing because he really was taking some growth steps and coming along and now he’s got a setback”, Davis said.

Smith, 23, took a cart to the locker room during the team’s joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens after going down during a kickoff drill.

“It’s definitely a possibility”, Harbaugh said.

The Eagles and Ravens have been working out together for the past three days.

It’s also safe to say a portion of Eagles beat writers, not bloggers, marveled at the size of the Ravens’ offensive line. The two teams will have a more intense workout Saturday night.

Good guy that Harbaugh is, he thanked the Eagles owners before hitting the road home.

“It ain’t like I’m stiff”, Curry said. “It was first class all the way. If you just look across the board at our offense, we’ve got depth at every position, especially the skill positions”, Bradford said.
