Eagles line up Pederson as new head coach
It’s nearly as if after Reid left Philly and was replaced by Chip Kelly, the team wanted to get back on the track they were on prior to the failed Kelly tenure.
Within the hour, Chip Kelly, fired by the Eagles three years into a five-year contract, became head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Running backs coach Eric Bieniemy has also been lauded for his work this year, and could receive interest as an offensive coordinator. Pederson was Reid’s offensive coordinator with the Chiefs for the past three seasons.
In 1999, Reid drafted McNabb with the second pick overall but didn’t feel McNabb was ready to start the season, so Pederson served in the dual role as quarterback and mentor to McNabb. He started nine games at quarterback for the Eagles in 1999, and began his National Football League coaching career under Andy Reid in 2009 as a quality control coach.
ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski thinks the Eagles chose the right man to fill their head coaching void in current Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson. Joining Reid in Kansas City, where Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, and made the Pro Bowl, and Charles made All Pro.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the hiring can’t become official until the Chiefs’ season is finished.
But the Eagles released a statement on Thursday, shortly after Bowens’ report, indicating that they had concluded their coaching search.
The Eagles surely trust that Pederson won’t, for example, ask for more money or otherwise renege on the deal they weren’t allowed to do. But while he no doubt was focused on what could be a career-making chance in Philadelphia, Pederson said it was hard not to let his mind drift to New England.
It didn’t take long for Ferndale High School to figure out it had something special in Doug Pederson.
Make no mistake, bringing in Pederson – described by some as an Andy Reid “clone” – was a direct result of the chaos from the Kelly era and an effort to return to some comfortable familiarity.
Second, an Eagles spokesperson said that the search was over.
However, there are fans who aren’t just pissed, but are seemingly without hope when it comes to the fate of the Eagles. You guys know Reid well enough and know that he hardly says anything in his press conferences.
Pederson enjoyed a 10-year playing career in the NFL. His offense is going to be similar to the one Bradford learned from Shurmur during his rookie year in St. Louis.
“Sometimes I think we kind of live in the past instead of what can happen in the future or the present time”, he said. However, by the time McNabb’s performance improved, Doug Pederson was gone the next season. A relationship between Flajole and Pederson goes back to 1998, when Pederson was the backup quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and Flajole was a defensive assistant coach.
