Eagles lose Bradford, then lose to Dolphins 20-19
Bradford’s shoulder looks like it’s keeping him out of action the next two weeks, meaning we get to watch Mark Sanchez under center for the rest of the month.
The Miami Dolphins started slowly on Sunday, falling behind 16-3 in the first quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles, before coming back to take the victory 20-19. These Dolphins did not only lose their previous games, they also lost big. Anyone wanting to see this Eagles team rise to the occasion, seize the opportunity and start taking control of this division will have to wait another week.
X-rays on Bradford’s left shoulder came back negative, and Eagles coach Chip Kelly said following the game that the team is awaiting further evaluation on Monday before they release a status update on Bradford.
“We have a lot of faith in Mark”, tight end Zach Ertz said. “He’s able to run this offense effectively”.
“The ball comes out fast”. “We knew we could move the football, and we did”.
Bobby McCain struggled at times, seeming to have trouble getting lined up on a couple of plays.
After Bradford was injured, the Dolphins went ahead 20-16 early in the fourth quarter. “They just said he hurt his shoulder but is in concussion protocol, so that’s the thing we’ll deal with”. Eagles LT Jason Peters missed his second straight game with a back injury. He was a limited practice participant during the week, but couldn’t go. Sam Bradford completed 25-of-36 passes for 295 yards, marking his third-highest total of the season.
However, the game on Sunday had a different ending as Sanchez appeared ineffective against the Dolphins.
You can blame Sanchez for the collapse of the Eagles towards the end of the season past year, but it’s not like the abysmal secondary lead by Cary Williams, Bradley Fletcher and Nate Allen did the Eagles any favors either.
Top three wideouts Jordan Matthews, Josh Huff, and Nelson Agholor were all mediocre to average in the defeat, and veterans Riley Cooper and Miles Austin were responsible for a few of the team’s greatest self-inflicted wounds, with Cooper wiping out a touchdown with an illegal formation penalty, and Austin failing to catch a touchdown in bounds and also failing to give a good effort on Mark Sanchez’s interception.
Suh had one of his best games since joining the Dolphins (4-5). Candy from a baby, right?
The third quarter sequence was similar to what happened on November 2, 2014 for the Eagles. The Eagles were only down by one point with just over four minutes to go, so only a field goal was necessary to take the lead. The 6-foot-4 Suh has three of his four sacks over the last four games and has finally adjusted to his role in Miami after years in Detroit. Fletcher Cox was in his face all afternoon.
The Eagles defense recorded a safety with 8:38 remaining in the first quarter, but could not prevent a deflected Ryan Tannehill pass from dropping in to the opportunistic hands of Jarvis Landry for the go head touchdown in the fourth quarter.
