Eagles lose rookie linebacker Jordan Hicks for rest of season

But give this defense 27 points at home and Dallas should expect to win.

Did the Philadelphia Eagles actually say “heads” instead of the winning “tails” coin toss in overtime, thus setting up its first-possession and game-ending touchdown and theoretically robbing the Dallas Cowboys of a chance to do the same?

“I said, ‘Let’s go end it right here, ‘” Bradford said. Consider their game against the Jets where they rushed for 15 yards, knowing that that was not the way to beat them.

Jordan Hicks’ stellar rookie season is over.

-Speaking of Jordan Hicks, did you notice who ran down Dez Bryant on the first drive? There were just two touchdowns in the first half-one for each side.

Alonso played just 29 of 78 snaps against the Cowboys, but coach Chip Kelly was pleased by what he saw. He rushed 27 times for 117 yards against the Eagles.

They’re now sitting at 2-6, well back of the first place Giants (5-4) and a full two games behind Philadelphia (4-4). There’s still hope, but margin for error is nonexistent. He completed three consecutive passes for 48 yards as the Eagles drove to a 31-yard Caleb Sturgis field goal in the fourth quarter. “I know those guys were pleased”.

“I thought (Bradford) was really accurate with his throws today”. You have no idea how big the bug is, and you have no idea whether exceptional plays are the result of a talented offense or a below-competent defense.

The immediate fear on the play was that Hicks had torn his pectoral muscle severely enough that he would miss the remainder of the season. That gave the Eagles a 24-21 lead.

The Cowboys forced overtime with a 54-yard drive to Dan Bailey’s 44-yard field goal that caromed off the left upright and went through.

Hardy wasn’t available in the locker room after the game.

“Then what happened?” Kelly said. “Whenever he’s not a factor, he’s a guy that’ll shut it down”.

“I think it comes down to execution”, said center Jason Kelce.

Johnson speculated that the mushrooming controversy might have distracted Hardy.

With 12 seconds, Cassel hit Bryant at the Philadelphia 31 and the Cowboys used their final timeout. Eagles inactive: QB Thad Lewis, WR Nelson Agholor, DB Denzel Rice, LB Brad Jones, LB DeMeco Ryans, OL Jason Peters, DE Brandon Bair….

It sounds easy in theory to move from right tackle to left tackle. Dallas recovered. The officials ruled it a fumble, but a replay review reversed the call.

The Eagles are 3-1 since that 1-3 start, much of it attributable to a powerful rushing attack that has found its gear with at least 172 yards on the ground in each of those games.

It was the second time during the skid that Dallas lost by giving up a touchdown to start overtime.

Suddenly, it was loud again. Instead, Bradford finished with only 205 yards and an interception, which probably should have been caught by wideout Jordan Matthews.

-First-round wide receiver Nelson Agholor missed his third straight game with an ankle injury. Cowboys returner Lucky Whitehead took the ensuing kickoff 3 yards deep in the end zone and raced 79 yards.

Rather than continue to grind it out from there, the Eagles went for the finishing strike.

In addition to getting on the same page with Matthews, Bradford spread the ball around other receivers, running backs and the tight end. Three Eagles surrounded Bryant. None of them made a play or even got up in the air. In fact, Chris Maragos might have knocked Carroll off balance.

Matthews, who had nine catches for 133 yards, broke away from rookie defensive back Byron Jones and ran past safety J.J. Wilcox on the first possession of overtime. Tie game again at 21.

The former Vanderbilt star may be a bit modest about what he did to help his team win, but Bradford definitely appreciated his efforts.
