Eagles of Death Metal members appear with U2 on Paris stage
The US rock band whose Paris concert was targeted by attackers on November 13, killing 90 people, have appeared back on stage in the French capital less than a month later. “They were robbed of their stage three weeks ago and we would like to offer them ours tonight”, said singer Bono. “It was the first time, one more time in Paris after a few weeks after the terrorist attack”.
The two bands then played the Patti Smith song People Have the Power.
Names of Paris attack victims were also projected on a huge video screen in the arena on Paris’ east side, not far from the site of the November 13 massacre. I look around and what do I see, nos amis, our friends.
In a message to Eagles of Death Metal after the show, U2 said the feeling of thanks was mutual.
Eagles Of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes took the mic dressed in a white suit and vowed: “Paris we love you and we will never give up rock and roll”.
“I can not wait to get to Paris”, he said.
At Monday night’s gig, Bono welcomed Eagles Of Death Metal on to the stage as their brothers saying he would introduce some people “whose lives will forever be a part of the city of Paris”.
Referring to the support the band had received in the wake of the horrifying events, they continued: “Thank you to Bono, The Edge, Larry and Adam, thank you to their wonderful management, thank you to France, and thank you to everyone in the world who continues to prove that love, joy, and music will always overcome terror and evil”.
EODM resume their tour next year and will perform in Paris again in February.
