Eagles Of Death Metal Recall Paris Attacks In First Interview Since Tragedy
He says “Our friends went there to see rock and roll and died”. In their first interview since terrorists opened fire mid-concert, the band’s lead singer on the night, Jesse Hughes, told Vice News that Mr Alexander protected a friend of his by “staying quiet and never call[ing] for help until he bled out, because he didn’t want anyone else to get hurt”. “I want to go back there and live”, he said.
Vice also spoke to Josh Homme, co-founder of the band, who wasn’t on tour with the group that night due to commitments with Queens of the Stone Age. I want to be the first band to play in the Bataclan when it comes back up. In an emotional interview with Vice, the California-based group described their experiences the night of November 13th, when heavily armed gunmen stormed the Bataclan and killed 89 people, coinciding with a series of attacks at other locations around Paris.
Hughes immediately called for those following him to turn around as he ran back in a different direction.
His voice choking with emotion, Mr Hughes described how the gunmen shot and killed everyone who had escaped into a dressing room, apart from “a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket”. I turned, looked through my drum hardware to the side of an amp, and that’s when the second round started.
“Buttons went flying”, London said. Jesse told United States online TV channel Vice the band’s merchandising manager Nick, 36, from Colchester, had acted heroically before dying of his injuries.
The band members recounted the moments, about an hour into their set, when they realised something was wrong and scrambled to escape, seizing opportunities to flee the stage when the gunmen paused to reload.
“We don’t really have a chance”. Also, the band has asked music publishers such as Itunes and Spotify to give proceeds from the song “I Love You All the Time” to these families.
The band vowed to return to the French capital.
In an interview with VICE, Eagles of Death Metal opened up about the tragic events of the terrorist attacks in Paris earlier this month.
