Eagles QB Bradford works at practice
Bradford was a limited participant in Monday’s practice, which was the primary session devoted to game planning during the short workweek.
The Eagles will board an airplane bound for Detroit on Wednesday not knowing who will start at quarterback against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.
86 days later and the Eagles are reeling, Jameis Winston threw for five touchdowns and Doug Martin ran for 235 yards as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers embarrassed the Eagles at home, 45-17.
Since Kelly is not scheduled to meet the media prior to the game, it appears that the decision will not be known publicly until shortly before kickoff on who will be the Eagles’ starting quarterback at Ford Field. “It’s a good thing we don’t have to play right now”.
“I’ve been cleared for the concussion”, said Bradford.
Like Bradford, Sanchez is on his second National Football League team.
With Bradford and Sanchez now in Philadelphia and Stafford still without a playoff victory to his name, all three quarterbacks represent just how hard it is to find a franchise quarterback who can excel consistently in the NFL.
With Sam Bradford missing Sunday’s game with an injury to his non-throwing shoulder as well as a concussion, reserve Mark Sanchez stepped in to take his place. “Like I said, if it continues to get better and they feel comfortable with me, then I’ll be out there”.
“I know Matt well”, Kelly said. “I’d like to be out there, but right now it’s going to be in the coaches’ and trainers’ hands”.
“They both have a good grasp of the offense”, the coach said during a Tuesday conference call with reporters. Bradford headed to the locker room for further evaluation, while QB Mark Sanchez stepped in.
That Bradford even has a chance to play is a bit of a surprise considering that he returned to practice Monday on a limited basis and was limited Tuesday in the Eagles’ walkthrough practice. “We just have to keep playing and keep improving”. “Whatever you’ve got to do, you’ve just got to maximize your time and leave yourself enough time to sleep”. Meanwhile, Sanchez is 40-of-64 passing for 417 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
I would have “loved” Rhode Island in this matchup with Matthews on board but I’ll still make a small play on the Rams. “I hope I’m out there”, Bradford said. “We were outcoached. We’re going to move on and get ready to play Detroit”.
“I’m not anxious about it”, Sanchez said.
“You know it’s amusing, when you win and that happens everybody says those two guys are really competitive”, Kelly said.
Also, running back Ryan Mathews and tight end Zach Ertz haven’t passed the concussion protocol and are all but formally out of the Lions game.
