Eagles sign TE Zach Ertz to five-year contract extension
Philadelphia Eagles Tight-End Zach Ertz has signed a five-year contract extension the team announced earlier today, keeping him at the team through 2021.
“Sam Bradford is excited”, Ertz said. I think it goes a long way. He’s going to do what’s best for him and the Eagles are going to do what’s best for us. Pederson and Reich will look to continue that trend of heavy tight end production with the Eagles next season now that they have Ertz secured. “I know he wants to be back in Philadelphia”.
“But at the same time we’re very confident in Doug and Howie and Mr. (Jeffrey) Lurie to decide who’s going to be the best person to play quarterback”.
Bradford and Ertz had a strong connection in the passing game, especially late in the season. Many were hoping to see Ertz explode after a successful 2014 and he did just that in the final few weeks of the season, averaging over 100 yards per game in his final four on just 35 receptions. In 2015, Ertz set career highs in receptions (75) and receiving yards (853), finishing second on the team in both categories. The production has been there, and it was a smart investment by Philadelphia to lock up a top-five tight end.
“This past season taught me a lot, and tested me in ways I had never imagined”. “The chemistry I developed with Sam, that Jordan [Matthews] developed with Sam, the other guys developed. That’s something I’m going to take pride in to accomplish”.
