Eagles trade cornerback Rowe to Pats for conditional pick
As for what the Eagles got in return, Josh Kline is a solid interior lineman with starting experience. He played in 33 games over the past three seasons, starting 18 times. This trade nearly completes the full house cleaning that the Philadelphia Eagles are enacting to move on from the Chip Kelly era. That’s a new one, as even Patriots coach Bill Belichick had commented on Rowe being part of the deal.
Ironically, Rowe’s start last season came in the Eagles’ upset win over the Patriots, Dec. 6 when he took over at cornerback for an injured Nolan Carroll, who suffered a fractured fibula the week before against the Detroit Lions.
Earlier in the day, it seemed like the Philadelphia Eagles were going to receive Josh Kline and flip him for help at a skill position, probably running back or wide receiver.
It is unknown if the Patriots plan to play him at safety or cornerback.
Apparently, the Eagles are trading Rowe either for the pick they were originally getting, or that and something more.
So personally, I don’t have anything holding me back”, Rowe said Monday, prior to Tuesday’s trade, “but I don’t know what they’re thinking upstairs.
Rowe was the second-round pick in last year’s draft, the orchestrated by Chip Kelly. It remains to be seen what the parameters of the conditional pick are, but it likely has to do with Rowe’s performance.
Kline (6-foot-3, 300 pounds) is a four-year veteran who entered the National Football League as an undrafted free agent out of Kent State in 2013. For starters, he could fill-in for Devin McCourty at free safety if the Patriots so please; he could also get snaps on the outside matching up against larger wideouts.
