Earnhardt declared victor in Phoenix as Chase finale field set
Kevin Harvick drives out of Turn 4 during the the NASCAR Sprint Cup…
The race was scheduled for early Sunday afternoon, but a rain shower shortly before the start spoiled the day.
“You can’t help the weather”, Logano said.
“There’s no doubt in my mind we’re still the strongest team on the race track”. As Harvick pulled away when the race returned to green, Earnhardt and Logano traded the second position back and forth.
Only longtime star Jeff Gordon has locked up a berth in next weekend’s title-deciding race, and three slots are up for grabs Sunday at Phoenix global Raceway.
NASCAR’s final race before the championship finale began around 9:30 p.m. Sunday after a rain delay at Phoenix global Raceway.
“I’m excited about our chances and our opportunity”, Gordon said.
And the maddening issue at Team Penske?
Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Kyle Busch, and Jimmie Johnson rounded out the top five. “We are working really hard to try to get another win”. It’s no one’s fault. However, rain had already moved into the area, forcing NASCAR to postpone the race well into the evening. “What are they supposed to do when it’s pouring out?” Should he make the final four, Joe Gibbs Racing will likely fail to advance Carl Edwards. Joey Logano needed to win in order to race for a title next week but could only come up with a third place finish. “Full_Leaderboard.html” target=”_blank”>NASCAR.com. The race was supposed to last 312 laps, but the persistent rain caused the event to be shortened. “It’s not even a call in my mind”.
Meanwhile, Earnhardt had no guilt in celebrating the win. “We knew that was going to be a tough situation, but it ended up that it bit us and I just hate it for these guys”. “It works out for a few and some it doesn’t”.
“It’s kind of bittersweet”, Harvick said. They gave us a good enough auto to come here and qualify well.
“Ever since then and right after they were given to us, we were trying to figure out how to get them to North Carolina, where to put them, who is going to take care of them, how often we were going to visit with them”. Harvick has won four consecutive races at Phoenix and five of the last six. Worsham beat playoff rival Jack Beckman in the semifinals to secure the season title and join Kenny Bernstein and Gary Scelzi as the only driver to win championships in both nitro categories.
Up until the race started, Kurt Busch looked as if he had a solid shot at winning his way into the Homestead finale.
Sidelined until late May, he was given a waiver by NASCAR to compete in the Chase.
GORDON’S FINISH: Jeff Gordon keeps playing with a larger pile of house money.
