East End healthcare pros give mixed opinions on American Health Care Act
The GOP health bill is far from ideal, but it is being attacked by numerous same Democrats who promised the moon under Obamacare, and who were proven wrong time and time again.
At the “IAmAPreexistingCondition” hashtag on Friday, Twitter users including actress Alyssa Milano described how the proposed House law could affect them or family members dealing with serious illnesses. Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rob Portman of OH and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia sent a letter to McConnell in March outlining their concerns.
The truth is that the vast majority of people already had these protections before ObamaCare went into effect – either because they got insurance through work or some other group plan, or directly from the government. “But we should have an assessment from them”.
As recently as Saturday, Trump promised: “Preexisting conditions are in the bill”.
There are likely many more twists and turns in the road ahead for the effort to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Since no one asked me, here’s a small very sensible (IMHO) suggestion: Both houses of Congress should have a rule preventing a vote on final passage of a bill of this magnitude and complexity without waiting for CBO analysis.
If the Republican Obamacare replacement won’t remove coverage from people with pre-existing conditions, why are Democrats saying that it will?
“The Senate will now finish work on our bill, but will take the time to get it right”, said Sen. “There hasn’t been any healthcare discussion over here”, Grassley said.
“Let me state it one more time: We will replace (Obamacare) with a system that protects pre-existing conditions”, McCarthy said on the House floor before Thursday’s vote.
Pre-Existing Conditions Under GOP Bill, Gender Bias? “Obamacare didn’t achieve that”. “That’s not going to happen with us”.
The bill would shift power to states to set some health insurance rules, slash Medicaid spending by more than $800 billion and cut almost $600 billion in taxes, most of which will benefit the wealthiest Americans.
“Republicans kicked a hornet’s nest, and it is not too soon to begin saying goodbye to some of my Republican colleagues from moderate districts, because this will cost them dearly”, said Representative Luis V. Gutiérrez, Democrat of IL.
“Don’t know what’s in it”, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) said before the vote. “It’s an attempt to write our own bill”, he said.
Would you be willing to tell the world your most private medical conditions?
“I think we first start with a report from our budget folks who analyze what this bill does, how much it costs, and what the benefits and detriments are”, Moran said. “But yes, I attempted to read the entire bill”. This isn’t a radical notion; before Obamacare, Illinois and many other states had these pools.
“Recent changes did not address fundamental concerns about the bill’s impact on the 650,000 individuals that are part of our Medicaid expansion population, nor have those changes eased the concerns of the 350,000 people in the individual market who are dealing with skyrocketing premiums and fewer choices”, Rauner said Thursday in a statement.
States that did not expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act are looking for additional funding for their programs. Sen. They includes House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. She had held out without declaring how she would vote through a previous round of congressional wrangling over an earlier version of the AHCA, right up until the bill was withdrawn in March.
