Eastern Michigan Oct. 3 game set for 6 pm
2nd: (2:10) LSU’s L. Fournette runs for 40 yards for a TD.
The Buzz: He may have gotten off to a slow start, but Fournette clearly cemented his status as a frontrunner in this Heisman race after rushing for a career-high 228 yards and three touchdowns during LSU’s 45-21 victory over Auburn. “I find myself constantly marveling at the aesthetics of Fournette’s big runs”.
As for bowling over tacklers?
“It was fun”, he said.
“The player seems to exceed the spot that the school has for him”, said Miles, who was the offensive line coach at Michigan when wide receiver/return specialist Desmond Howard won the Heisman. “The crowd reacted wonderful”.
What the win means for LSU: Fournette has had big games before – this was actually his fourth straight game with at least 140 rushing yards – but never anything like this.
During most of Gus Malzahn’s two-plus seasons as Auburn’s head coach, his offense has usually had its way on the ground. “We have to do a better job of filling gaps”. What they did was ride those all time greats each game because those players were that special. “They really didn’t give our defense any kind of a spark or any kind of hope”.
Original post: LSU is up 24-0 on Auburn as I write this, and it’s mostly because running back Leonard Fournette is a bad, bad man. It stacked the box an went man for a little while. Auburn vs LSU at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. on September 19.
The game Fournette had against Auburn was one for the ages. Last year’s Pac-12 rushing leader had 219 yards on 26 carries against BYU.
LSU still doesn’t know how well it can pass the ball.
As Fournette sprinted down the LSU sideline toward a 29-yard touchdown for a for a 31-7 lead at the 10:56 mark of the third quarter, Auburn safety Tray Matthews – obviously frustrated with conventional tackling by this time – attempted a new form of stoppage. He is also recording an impressive 8.2 yards per carry so far in 2015.
They’re good, and as sophomore quarterback Brandon Harris further establishes himself, they’re only going to keep improving. “He managed the clock and the situations we asked him to operate for us”.
“Yeah, they wanted to play, and they wanted to play in a way that this conference could see there was something going on at LSU”, Miles said of his line. “I enjoyed how he performed”.
Junior Johnathan Ford was Auburn’s leading tackler in 2014 (93 combined and 62 solo tackles) and also leads the team in tackles after two games with 24 combined. Devon Godchaux had two sacks, pushing his season total to three.
The temperature was 91 degrees at kickoff, tying for the fifth-hottest start to a game in Tiger Stadium. A 71-yard run on LSU’s first play set up a touchdown run from quarterback Brandon Harris. But it’s hard not to dismiss Auburn from that discussion at this point. Auburn beat LSU 41-7. Harris is one short of the necessary attempts of 15 to qualify for the stats, but if 14 was enough he would be 108 in the nation at 106.89 on 9-of-14 passing for 71 yards with no interceptions. The Tigers – the AU version – will try to get the ball out of his hands in a hurry, and that’s where the speed of the LSU back seven kicks in. Jamal Adams led the defense with 1 interception. The Bulldogs would add another field goal early in the third. Henry was his usual bell-cow self in the loss to Ole Miss (127 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries).
