Eastern US braces for storm system that pummeled Midwest
In Illinois, more than 100 power poles are down in the Ottawa-area and more than 22,330 lost power at some point overnight, Tuesday.

In South Central Illinois, severe thunderstorm warnings were up for the entire region, with small areas of southern Jefferson and Wayne and eastern Clay County placed under tornado warnings at the height of the storm.
Authorities say one person was killed Tuesday in the central IL city of Ottawa by a tornado spawned by a late-winter storm system.
Nevins said emergency crews have completed a search of the village, and officials are confident they have accounted for everyone.
In Perryville the storms flipped cars over along a highway and ripped down trees and power lines, according to local media. He said homes in Naplate, which is west of Ottawa, were severely damaged.
In the wake of the tornadoes’ aftermath, three people were killed, others injured and cars were scattered on highways. “Again, constantly looking to make sure there’s no people injured, or anything like that”, Ottawa Police Capt. Dave Gualandri said.
“But it could have been a lot of worse we have to count are blessing”, Rauner said.
The cost of the damage wasn’t immediately clear, but “we will be able to restart the site” eventually, Miller said.
Equinox Weather was chasing the storm through LaSalle County and captured several photos of damage to the nursing home. The tornado damaged or destroyed homes, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, and resulted in 10 injuries.
