Economic sanctions lifted as Tehran fulfills nuclear agreement with world powers
German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said many nations would now “be able to breathe a sigh of relief”, and called the deal a “historic success for diplomacy”.
IAEA Director General Youk-i-ya Amano announced the lifting of the sanctions in a video statement.
“The United States today is ceasing the application of its nuclear-related statutory sanctions on Iran, including terminating relevant executive orders and licensing of certain activities, as specified in the JCPOA”, it said. Meanwhile, Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu pledged that Israel would remain vigilant to ensure that Iran was not violating its commitments.
After years of economic isolation, it was a great sigh of relief for Iran when the United States and European nations lifted oil and financial sanctions.

Iran needs up to $50 billion in foreign investment per year to reach its goal of eight-percent annual growth, Rohani said.

In a statement, Kerry said the sanctions termination provisions of Iran’s landmark nuclear agreement are now in effect.
Four Americans and seven Iranians were part of the prisoner swap.
The US is confident the agreement will prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
