Economy expected to dominate federal leaders debate tonight
“It’s taken on a life of its own post-debate”, said Aaron Brindle, a spokesman for the company. Political reporter Jane Taber will lead a panel before and after the debate with analysis from our team of political and business journalists, who will also offer regional perspectives, such as exploring the implications of slumping oil prices in Alberta and the plight of manufacturing in central Canada, the newspaper said.
“The Globe and Mail debate on the economy – like the Munk Debate – was hand-picked by Stephen Harper”, the Greens said in their press release.
The NDP and Liberals both quickly turned their respective leaders’ quotes into easy-to-share digital postcards Thursday as part of their online campaigns to “win” the debate.
“Elizabeth May will be here, and she’ll be basically watching the debate on television”.
Many people tried to use the power of social media to include Green party Leader Elizabeth May in Thursday’s economic debate.
The Greens wanted Twitter’s expertise and on-site assistance to make sure “we’re doing the technology side of this right”, said party communications director Julian Morelli, adding the company is not charging for its services.
So, she and the party got creative.
Videos she made on renewable energy, poverty and student debt were the most retweeted messages linked explicitly to the wide-ranging debate, the second leaders’ meeting so far in this campaign.
In total, May’s video posts received 14,000 retweets and favourites, and she gained 3,900 new followers.
The Saanich-Gulf Islands MP directly attacked two of the Big Three leaders, criticizing the Prime Minister on his “rip and strip” resource management and Mulcair on his cap and trade carbon tax policies.
Regardless, May said earlier this week she’s going debate the issue remotely using Twitter.
“There is this shared experience and commentary that happens on the platform”.
