Ed Orgeron ready to lead his beloved LSU Tigers
He’s a coach the players responded to this season, and that was good enough for LSU.
This appointment could be seen as a redemption for Orgeron, given that he was in this exact same situation in 2013 when he took over for Lane Kiffin at USC after the latter was sacked. We’re all one heartbeat. “The names he presented me, I feel like he’s going to be able to come through with 90 percent of them”. Orgeron will be up against that, too.
The Tigers led just 20-7 at the half and got there with missed opportunities resulting in field goals and a stifling defensive effort by Dave Aranda’s defense.
Orgeron was recruited to play for LSU after winning a state championship at South Lafourche High School, where he was teammates with quarterback Bobby Hebert, who would go on to an National Football League career, notably with the New Orleans Saints.
Orgeron’s first stint as LSU’s head football coach concluded with a 54-39 blowout victory over the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday evening, which presumably landed him the full-tim gig in the end. I wasn’t going to get into a situation where we were bidding with other schools.
Under Orgeron, the Tigers took some big steps forward with some historic offensive performances against the likes of Missouri, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Texas A&M. However, the fact remains that they’re still on a six-game losing streak to Alabama, and that’s where Orgeron says he welcomes the challenge every year. He also spent a season as a defensive line coach with the Saints. He’s led the program to a 5-2 record, with narrow losses to Alabama, which beat the Tigers 10-0, and Florida, which won 16-10. Miles is likely going to land another job, and he’ll do well there.
LSU will have a press conference today at NOON CT to announce its new head football coach. His teams work hard for him, he can recruit … he’s nearly there.
The expected announcement Saturday of Ed Orgeron as LSU’s head coach has a significant impact on the recruitment of at least two Mississippians and the Magnolia State’s best player. “He’s been here all along”, Alleva said. Head coaches have to be great coaches yes, but they also must be excellent recruiters, polished with the media, able to fundraise … you don’t just need a brilliant football mind, you need to be a politician.
The Tigers have the fourth-ranked recruiting class in the country with 18 commitments, including 11 ranked in the ESPN 300.
EdOrgeron asked why his team wasn’t distracted by coaching rumors.”I haven’t read 1 article this WK or one tweeter or whatever you call it”.
“I’ve not been told”, he said.
