Genuine humility or a clever move to make fans weak at the knees? Over the years, he has given away his entire wardrobe to raise money for numerous local organisations and similarly in early 2015, he auctioned off the outfit that he wore to the Grammy Awards for the same reason.

This wouldn’t be the first time Ed has set his sights on helping others, as the 24-year-old has been known to donate bags of clothes to charity shops in the past.

Speaking to The Mirror, Jacqui added: ‘We’d welcome him. They are looking forward to meet hum and work with him.

Not only that, but the singer with a heart made of sugar, teddy bears and general perfection has also reportedly bought the old police station in his hometown for £1 million, with plans to turn it into a youth club. A rest at home could be just what he needed.

Tweeters flooded the servers with comments about his charity debut: “OMG that’s so cute”, “I love you my dear sweet @edsheeran” and “He seems to remember where his roots lie and not into the whole celebrity roller coaster”.

Poor Ed probably had a month-long holiday planned on some Caribbean island, maybe dropping a few bags off at a charity shop on the way.

Indeed, Sheeran’s move – if true – might not do him any favours.

This week is not turning out so great for music lovers, as swiftly after One Direction announce that they will be taking a break in the very near future, rumours emerge that Ed Sheeran will be doing the same, beginning next month.
