Ed Sheeran Sued For Allegedly Copying Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”
The family of the co-writer of Let’s Get It On, Gaye’s famous soul track, have filed the lawsuit.
Singer Ed Sheeran has been sued for allegedly copying his hit “Thinking Out Loud”.
It became the first song to be streamed over 500 million times on Spotify and its video has racked up over 1.2 billion views on YouTube.
Representatives for defendants Sheeran, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, and Atlantic Records did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The outcome of that case is still pending, but now Ed has another case to worry about.
People have noticed the similarities of the two tracks in the past.
Do you think the “Thining Out Loud” and “Let’s Get It On” sound similar? It also won song of the year at the 2016 Grammy awards.
Thicke and Williams were ordered to pay Gaye’s three children $7.4m (5.6m).
Ed’s already being sued for $20m (£13.8m) over his single Photograph, which two United States musicians say copies their song wonderful.
Back in June, Ed was sued for allegedly copying parts of a song by X Factor victor Matt Cardle in his smash hit “Photograph”.
The $20m price tag doesn’t include royalties.
According to Ed Townsend, who co-wrote the song, Sheeran did.
The pair are seeking $20 million in damages.
