Eddie Jones in talks with England
Cipriani missed out on World Cup selection after featuring in the warm-up games and was reported to have had a bust-up with assistant coach Mike Catt.
The 29-year-old back row will start with a “clean slate” according to Jones, but the Australian also outlined a clear vision for his skipper.
Bristol’s Steve Borthwick, who worked with Jones with Japan at the World Cup, is favourite to be one of those promoted as forwards coach.
Jones said he had to take the “once in a lifetime” chance to coach England after leaving the Stormers barely a week into his time with the South African side after stepping down as Japan boss.
Jones will perhaps be best known to England fans as the man who led Australia to the World Cup final in 2003, losing to Clive Woodward’s England.
Jones has been the frontrunner from the beginning of the recruitment process and will be among the highest paid rugby coaches in the world. “I think the current laws are the right regulation to have”.
“I’ll sit down with Chris and have a chat with him”, he said.
“Just look at the Japan team he coached to victory over the Springboks – they outplayed us through intelligence, not brutality or strength, and that’s the type of coach Eddie is”.
Poised: Eddie Jones is firming as the next England coach.
“England have won two of the last three under-20s World Cups so there’s great talent out there”.
Australia coach Michael Cheika is relishing a showdown with friend and compatriot Eddie Jones when he faces his England side next year.
“We are not going to copy the All Blacks”, he told English media.
“International experience and successful global experience at the level that Eddie has got was what we were looking for”, said Ritchie.
“I remain very grateful to WP for this opportunity and I would sincerely like to apologise to anyone that might have been affected by my sudden decision to leave Cape Town”. “Of the team from the 2015 World Cup probably 70 percent can go on to 2019 so it’s a great legacy Stuart Lancaster’s left”.
“England have always had a strong set piece, good defence and that bulldog spirit and I don’t want to take that away but on its own that’s not enough to win test matches”.
However, Jones says he won’t select foreign-based players, which means French exiles Steffon Armitage and Nick Abendanon won’t be lining up against Wales.
“The whole idea about rugby is that you get people who play for your country, who come through the system and you want them to come through to the national job and pass on their experience”.
“We’re thoroughly behind Ian in the process and I think what he’s done over the four years he’s been here… we’re in a pretty good state”, added Beaumont, England’s 1980 Grand Slam-winning captain.
