Eddie Lacy looks to get back on track for Green Bay Packers
The Packers are the cold team needing a jolt, and the Vikings are the hot team everyone’s trying to cool off.
Green Bay’s other two losses were on the road – and against much better teams.
Behind an offensive line that has battled injury the past three weeks, Rodgers has absorbed many hits and hasn’t had the time to find receivers, who have also struggled to get open against man-to-man press coverage. “And then we had a couple mental errors”, Rodgers said.
Mike McCarthy and Rodgers both downplayed the significance of the injury after practice. Twice as many sacks is certainly troubling and many people have been skeptical of Aaron’s condition, but the issue that landed him on the injury report was actually a little unexpected.
-DB Micah Hyde (hip) of the Packers was upgraded to probable for Sunday’s NFC North showdown against the Vikings.
On the season, the Green Bay Packers average 236.3 yards in passing and 108.0 yards in passing. Bridgewater may need to reach beyond his comfort zone against Green Bay, but his penchant for limiting mistakes should serve him well come Sunday. Aaron Rodgers said after last week’s game against the Lions that “the energy wasn’t great from the start”. “They’re the top level, and we’re just trying to get into the mix”. “He can really hurt you (running the ball)”. McCarthy said Starks will remain the starting running back, but Lacy will be back as the 2 in a “1-2 punch” on Sunday.
“Obviously this is his third injury”, McCarthy said. “He looks good so far”.
Having success running the football is a focus for the Packers this weekend as they look to free up their receivers, who have been blanketed by tighter pass coverage. But in the last five games, defensive play-callers have sent at least one extra pass rusher after Rodgers on 41 percent of his dropbacks, while Rodgers’ completion percentage has dropped and his sack total has gone up. It hasn’t happened since his first season as a starter in 2008. The Vikings rank second in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 17.1 points per contest. This is pretty darn close if the Vikings want to hold onto the NFC North lead. “It’s Week 11 coming up, everybody is dealing with different things”. “However that unfolds, as long as whatever I’m doing is positive and helping us toward a ‘W, ‘ that’s my main concern”.
NOTES: Also probable for the Packers are LB Clay Matthews (ankle/knee) and WR James Jones (quadriceps). DB Micah Hyde (hip) and rookie WR Ty Montgomery (ankle) are questionable.
A month ago, Green Bay was in the driver’s seat. The Packers are coming off an 18-16 loss at home to the Lions, ending a 24-game win streak against Detroit at home.
