Eddie Lacy: Weight not a concern unless Packers say so
He was hitting the hole more upright, making it easier for a defender to take him down. Maybe this is why the Packers’ bullish running back is off to another sluggish start. But the conversation regarding his weight was muted for the most part because of his performance over this first two National Football League seasons.
The Packers visit the Denver Broncos on Sunday night in a clash of undefeated teams. Head coach Mike McCarthy will make the final call.
At his best, the 5-foot-11, 234-pound Lacy is a punishing counter-punch for an offense that relies on the precision passing of quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Lacy and Starks each have about the same amount of carries on the season and Starks is coming in after rushing for 112 yards and one touchdown before the bye against the Chargers. Montgomery injured an ankle nearly two weeks ago in the Packers’ home win over San Diego. He was limited to four carries for a microscopic three yards playing in a 50/50 split with Starks in the game against the Chargers. Lacy hasn’t gotten to 100 yards once this season, nor has he scored since Week 1.
“I noticed I would take a hit and I would break the tackle, but I would break it sideways, which allows other people to come tackle me, versus in years past my pads would be low”, Lacy explained, “so when I take the hit, I’m still moving forward”. “It’s getting better day by day and just hoping this is the week, and we’re pushing and it’s looking good so far”. But the second-year receiver hasn’t done much since getting hurt in Week 2. Offensively, we have a chance to clean our own house. “The plan is to try to get him to do more today”, McCarthy said of Starks. There’s more into it than just what you weigh on a scale.
“We’re not running enough plays”, McCarthy said.
The easygoing Lacy answered questions in stride.
“It helped a lot”, Lacy said of the bye week. A few people can’t. I’m not the smallest person… At his current rate, he may be entering Jerome Bettis-territory by the time his rookie deal is up. “Just all in all, I feel like I’m getting back to where I was”.
Peterson, the Minnesota Vikings star, is listed at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds.
As running back Eddie Lacy was plowing under would-be tacklers during two 1,000-yard seasons for the Green Bay Packers, he drew comparisons to the Incredible Hulk. Starks has been getting a few extra work with Eddie Lacy banged up, as the running back has been dealing with an ankle injury this season. He said any loss of production is probably due to the ankle injury he suffered against Seattle in Week 2. Montgomery’s absence from Wednesday’s practice isn’t promising for the rookie’s availability for Sunday’s game at Denver.
