Eden Hazard nets brilliant solo goal vs Barcelona
Jose Mourinho in interview with the English media during Chelsea’s pre-season tour chose Belgium global Eden Hazard over World Player of Year Cristiano Ronaldo based on last season’s performance.
The Chelsea manager has never been afraid to express an opinion or two and with the start of the new Premier League season just 11 days away, he had some high-profile names in his sights.
After receiving some criticism from Mourinho earlier in his Chelsea career, the 24-year-old has now convinced his boss that he has the mental as well as the sporting attributes to lead the team in the future.
Hazard picked the ball up 45 yards from goal and beat three defenders before finding the corner of the net with a placed finish.
When asked to respond to those claims, Wenger said that Messi and Ronaldo were better than Hazard because they scored a lot more goals than the Chelsea FC man. I must say players like Messi and Ronaldo still score 50 goals and that is exceptional. “I want Eden to be what he is – absolutely fantastic”. I am just saying that, in my personal view, every football player in the world should understand that a team has to be in front and no titles.
Explaining his reasoning behind Hazard’s climb, Mourinho said: “Football without titles is nothing”. “Would I put Eden above Ronaldo?”
“The only I thing can do is what we are doing and what Eden is doing, which is to work and work and work to be stronger and stronger”.
While Mourinho’s disdain for Pellegrini is clear to see, it is still Wenger who gets him animated the most. He won three competitions last year, he reached the Copa America final (with Argentina). They have to win some titles, no? I don’t want to change his mentality or personality.
