Eden Hazard reacts to Chelsea’s draw at Tottenham
Describing Costa as a “positive” player, Mourinho said that the former is physically fit and working well.
Under-fire Diego Costa could face more trouble with Jose Mourinho, after appearing to throw his bib at the Chelsea boss. “They’re not happy. So for me, his behaviour was normal”.
“If he wants to hurt me, it’s not with a bib”. Suddenly you’re walking up to him on Monday and say “Diego, it’s a team game son, we’re all in this together”.
Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Diego Costa came under renewed scrutiny after the Chelsea manager dropped the striker for Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. We all know what he’s capable of and he not moving anywhere near as much. When I decided not to play him, he went (back to the bench). We won against Norwich, we drew here and we play a good game at home next week which we have to win.
Costa’s sulk was the latest sign of tension between him and Mourinho, coming just a few days after their bust-up during Chelsea’s 4-0 Champions League win at Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Mourinho told BT Sport after the game that “there was not an issue, not at all” with Costa, who did not warm up with the other substitutes before nor after the game.
“I was not expecting to have a player on the bench who was jumping and singing because they’re not playing”.
But the Blues were facing a Tottenham side that extended its unbeaten run in the league to 14 matches – the best since the 1984-85 season – and sits 10 points ahead of Chelsea in fifth place.
“This is a good thing (that we are disappointed)”, said the Argentine, whose side remain fifth in the table.
“But the next game is against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and I have to focus on them now, to see how they defended and whether they project their full-backs forward or not”.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino was asked if he was happy with a draw in light of Thursday’s Europa League clash in Azerbaijan. “I am convinced at the end of December we will be in a different position than we are now and shorten the distance to the top teams, and our feeling will be different”.
‘We want to finish in the top four and we know it’s hard but we will try. “A lovely save, the game could have been a win for us if that goes in”.
