Edmonton Eskimos rolling despite injury to Reilly
The Roughriders, who have an 0-5 record heading into their Friday game against the Edmonton Eskimos, were running short on quarterbacks, and Saskatchewan coach Corey Chamblin had said on Wednesday the team would be adding a QB.
Glenn suffered a pectoral tear following Sunday’s loss against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. It is unclear when Glenn will return. Darian Durant was lost for the year in the season opener and Glenn took over duties under centre following the injury.
“I’m not putting pressure on him, it’s football”, Chamblin said of his rookie starter.
Smith’s mobility could be severely tested against an athletic Eskimos defence that likes to get after opposing quarterbacks.
“As a defence you want to play against the best and offensively they are the best”, he said.
Sims went undrafted during the 2015 NFL Draft but did get a shot at mini camps with the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Redskins but ultimately didn’t receive an offer.
Former Wyoming quarterback Brett Smith made his CFL debut, finishing the game under center after Glenn was hurt. “I mean, that’s what Chris does. It’s time to blitz them”.
The Roughriders also have Tino Sunseri and Keith Price on the roster and have reportedly signed former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims.
“The biggest thing for (Smith) going into it that’s going to be tough for him is the fact that they’re so experienced and they can give him a bunch of different looks”, Franklin said.
“I know we’ve discussed it and we do have a list of names”. “The time frame on that, I’m not sure of”.
