Edmonton Oilers rookie McDavid out with injury
Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid reportedly suffered a broken clavicle on Tuesday night during a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
McDavid got up within a couple of seconds and picked up his stick with his left arm, then grabbed his left shoulder with his right arm for a few seconds.
Oilers Connor McDavid suffered a serious shoulder injury on Tuesday night in a game versus the Philadelphia Flyers.
“We go up 2-1 in this game, Neuvy is standing on his head, and he’s giving us a chance to win and we just don’t show up in the third period, when we should have played our best hockey”, winger Wayne Simmonds said. Guys get hurt all the time. It’s unfortunate for him and unfortunate for the game of hockey He’s an exciting player and you could see it in the one game we played with him.
McDavid had 12 points in 12 games this season and was selected as the NHL’s rookie of the month for October. “I’m not sure what the exact details are of the injury”.
McDavid’s run came to an end versus the team against which it began, as Calgary kept him in check in a 5-4 victory on Saturday. It was an incredibly violent collision, nearly as violent as the grinding halt to the Edmonton Oilers’ season that resulted from it.
“He was upset. He loves to play the game and he won’t be playing it for a while”. How this will effect the Oilers and Nail Yakupov has yet to be seen but it’s not a good sign.
In Edmonton, where it remains (for good reason) heretical to mention anyone’s name in the same breath as that of The Great One, McDavid is out indefinitely with the kind of serious injury Gretzky never had to endure until Team US defenceman Gary Suter cross-checked him during the 1991 Canada Cup, causing back problems that would recur for the rest of his career.
I’ve watched it more times than I care to count and it seems pretty clear to me that it’s just an unlucky outcome. He not only has scored five goals and nine points in 12 games, but also has been held without a point only three times this season. Taylor Hall has missed 74 games due to injury in the past five seasons, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle have combined to miss 68 games.
“He just has to get healthy and come back and play like he was before he was injured”.
“Connor is a young man in terms of (physical) development”, said McLellan.
