Edward Jones Dome could lose its name after Rams move
That question was finally answered Tuesday night as a 30-2 vote from the league’s owners paved the way for Stan Kroenke’s Inglewood stadium “palace” as many have called it and the Rams to return to the Los Angeles area.
The Rams’ move from St. Louis to Los Angeles is now official, but there’s still $144 million worth of baggage for which their former home is still on the hook. The San Diego Chargers has the option to join them in the new stadium.
St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke is moving the team to Los Angeles because he grew exhausted of being a victim. When Kroenke originally laid out the plans for his new stadium in Inglewood, the hope was that building could be ready in time for the 2018 season. The NFL owners gave little support for Oakland returning to the big city and decided to choose the Chargers to partner with Kroenke’s Rams. Which means that the Chargers will most likely be in San Diego one more year as they need to decide on a location for the 2016 by March.
“The flexibility of the district allows for the NFL to develop office and studio space for NFL Network, NFL Media and NFL Digital, allowing them dynamic new space to grow just three miles from their current Culver City location”. USC Athletic Director Pat Haden, who played quarterback for the Trojans and Rams when they both played in the Coliseum in the 1970s, said the Rams will pay for upgrading the lights to National Football League standards. “They knew they had to get it right this time around, and I believe that they think they’ve got the right business model”. Yes, we have a rich tradition and history in Los Angeles. Spanos has wanted a replacement for San Diego’s aging Qualcomm Stadium for around 15 years but had been stymied by the city’s fiscal problems a decade ago, the recession and difficulty in finding a suitable site.
On Wednesday afternoon, NBC Sports/NFL Network reporter Alex Flanagan tweeted: “NFL has framework of a stadium deal between the rams/chargers”.
“We talked about our hotels in the city of L.A. being filled when these games are on; we talked about our airport having activity when people fly in from out of town”, Garcetti said.
And now, so are the St. Louis fans; reflected in local stores deeply discounting it’s Rams merchandise. If they decline, the Oakland Raiders then have one year to decide if they will join the Rams.
“We’ll see where the Raider Nation ends up here”, he continued.
The Los Angeles Raiders played at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 1982-1994, before returning to Oakland in 1995.
He says he’s hurting with other St. Louis Rams fans. Kroenke said the Rams have offered the Chargers and Raiders “a partnership in the stadium as an owner, or we’ve offered the lease arrangements”.
