EE is recalling Power Bar portable chargers over fire risks from overheating
EE is only recalling Power Bars with the model number E1-06 – you’ll find that written on the side of the device.
One of the UK’s largest mobile phone operators, EE, have been forced to recall a promotional portable battery pack, known as a Power Bar, as it could be prone to overheating and may explode.
You should immediately return those with the model number ‘E1-06′ to your nearest store and EE have sent texts to all customers that have bought a Power Bar, informing them of this recall.
We’re requesting that customers stop using Power Bars from batch E1-06, and unplug them from handsets and the mains.
“Power Bars from any other batch aren’t affected by this recall”.
EE has recalled thousands of Power Bar phone chargers just days after a woman ended up in hospital when one of the devices exploded, causing injury to her hands and damage to the victim’s property.
“Customers returning batch E1-06 will be issued with a replacement once our investigations are concluded”.
If you have one of the chargers and are concerned, more information can be found here. “This is an isolated incident and we’re in contact with the customer to investigate the cause of this issue as a matter of urgency”.
The scheme was met with huge demand, resulting in around 1.5 million being made available.
EE has said it intends to replace the chargers once it has completed its investigations and apologised for any inconvenience. Other incidents include damage to a carpet after appearing to overheat and catch fire.
According to the BBC, EE is also offering affected customers a £20 voucher to spend on accessories.
